Club Rules

These rules form part of your membership agreement. By using the club you agree to follow them. They exist to keep you and everyone else safe.

Who these rules are between. Your membership is with JNJ Leisure LTD (company number 07257842), trading as UFit Fitness. These rules apply to the premises operated by U Fit Community Leisure Ltd (company number 08447956) and to equipment owned by JNJ Leisure LTD. In these rules, "we", "us" and "UFit" means both companies and their staff.

Before you train

  1. Complete the Health and Gym Experience Questionnaire before you train, and keep it up to date. If we ask you to have a health review or an induction, do not train unsupervised until it is done.
  2. Tell us if your health changes in a way that affects your training. You can update your details at any time.
  3. Age.
  4. a. Members aged 16 and over may use the gym unaccompanied, once the questionnaire has been completed and, where we ask for one, they have completed an induction.
  5. b. Under 16s may not use the gym floor, unless they are taking part in a supervised junior class, or are with a parent or guardian who stays with them at all times.
  6. c. Anyone under 18 must join with a parent or guardian who is also a member of the club. The parent or guardian completes the questionnaire and signs the waiver on their behalf.
  7. d. Under 18s may not use the sauna and ice recovery area.

Using equipment

  1. Use equipment the way it was designed to be used. Manufacturer instructions are on or near every machine. Follow them.
  2. Check adjustments are locked before you load. Many machines have parts that move and lock: pulley carriages, seat pins, safety bars, arm positions. Before you apply any weight or force, check the locking pin is fully engaged. Look at it and give it a pull. If it does not lock cleanly, stop and tell a member of staff.
  3. Always use the correct attachment. Cable machines are designed to be used with a handle, bar or rope fitted. Never train using the bare cable, the carabiner or the connector on its own.
  4. Keep your hands clear of moving parts while equipment is under load. Collars and clips on barbells, every time.
  5. If something looks unsafe, do not use it. Never try to fix or adjust a fault yourself.
  6. If you do not know how to use something, ask. Staff will show you, free, any time. There is no such thing as a stupid question in here.

Bars, plates and storage

  1. Put bars back in their holders, fully seated. Push the bar all the way in and check it sits secure before you let go. If it will not sit properly, do not force it. Tell a member of staff.
  2. Never lean a bar against a wall, rack, rig or bench.
  3. Do not kick, lean on, climb on, hang from or overload any storage. That means bar holders, plate trees, dumbbell racks and rigs.
  4. Put everything back where it came from. Unload your bar when you finish. Plates on the tree, dumbbells on the rack in order, attachments back on the hooks.

Looking after the space

  1. Do not leave anything on the floor. Not weights, not bars, not bags, not water bottles. Walkways stay clear.
  2. Wipe equipment down after you use it.
  3. Chalk is allowed anywhere in the club. Please clean up any spills.
  4. Do not move equipment out of its area without speaking to staff.

Reporting problems

  1. Tell us immediately if anything is damaged, loose, worn or not working properly. Do not keep using it and do not leave it for someone else to find. Speak to any member of staff.
  2. Tell us straight away if you or anyone else is hurt, however minor it seems. We will complete an accident report. This protects you as much as it protects us.

Training safely

  1. Train within your own ability. If you are unsure whether an exercise is right for you, ask. If you feel pain, dizziness or discomfort, stop and tell a member of staff.
  2. Use a spotter for heavy lifts, or use the safety bars. Give people lifting around you space.

Sauna, ice recovery and the hot studio

  1. Do not use the sauna or ice recovery if you are unwell, or if you have had alcohol or drugs. If you have a heart or blood pressure condition, are pregnant, or ticked any health statement on your questionnaire, speak to staff first.
  2. Keep to the time limits displayed. Get out straight away if you feel faint, dizzy or unwell, and tell staff. You must be 18 or over to use the sauna and ice recovery area.
  3. In the hot studio, bring water and drink it. Tell the instructor before class about any health condition, injury or pregnancy. If you feel dizzy or unwell, leave the room and tell the instructor.

Getting in, and who can be here

  1. Your entry is yours alone. You get into the club using the UFit app. Do not let anyone else use your membership or your app, and do not let anyone in behind you. Every door entry is logged.
  2. Everyone who trains must have a membership or a valid pass and must have completed the questionnaire. You may bring a guest, as long as they buy their own day pass through Glofox first, so they complete the questionnaire before they train.
  3. Children who are not training may be in the building with the adult responsible for them. They must stay with that adult and stay off the training areas.
  4. Only UFit approved personal trainers may coach in the club. If you want to train someone else for payment, speak to management first. This is covered in your membership terms.

Your belongings

  1. Anything you bring in is your responsibility. Please use a locker, with your own padlock, and do not leave valuables unattended.

How we behave here

  1. Treat staff and other members with respect. Aggressive, abusive, anti-social or threatening behaviour will not be tolerated (see "If rules are broken").
  2. No alcohol or illegal drugs in the club, and do not come in to train under the influence of either.
  3. Phones and filming. You may film your own training if you are not in anyone's way. Do not film or photograph other members without their permission. No photos or filming in changing rooms, ever. We sometimes film or photograph for promotion. If you are in the background of a shot, we may use it unless you opt out: tick the box when you sign up, tell staff, or email info@ufit-fitness.com. If you are clearly the subject, we will ask you first and only use it if you say yes. For anyone under 18, we need a yes from their parent or guardian. If you ask, we will remove a photo or video of you from our own website and social media and not use it again. We cannot recall anything already printed or shared by others.
  4. Appropriate footwear and clothing at all times. Training tops on in the gym area.

CCTV

  1. CCTV operates in the club for safety and security. It records video only, with no sound. Footage is recorded over after 90 days. If there is an incident, we download the relevant clip and save it as evidence. A saved clip is kept for as long as the incident or any claim needs it, on the same rule as our accident reports: six years after the incident, or until the 25th birthday of the person involved if they were under 18 at the time, whichever is later. Footage may be shared with insurers, legal advisers or the police and other authorities where necessary. Our Privacy Policy has the detail.

Emergencies

  1. Know where your nearest exit is. If the fire alarm sounds, stop, leave by the nearest exit and follow staff instructions. Do not stop to collect belongings. Go to the fire assembly point on the grass area at the car park entrance (look for the green sign) and do not go back in until staff say so.
  2. Never block a fire exit or prop open a fire door.
  3. If someone collapses or is seriously hurt, tell staff straight away.

Specialist areas

  1. The hot studio, the boxing studio, the sauna and ice recovery area, the Olympic lifting platforms and the container box have their own rules, displayed at each. Read them before you use those areas.

If rules are broken

Most problems are sorted with a quiet word. If not:

  • First, a member of staff will speak to you and give you a warning. Staff may also ask you to leave for the rest of the day.
  • If it happens again, or is more serious, we may suspend your access.
  • If it carries on, we may end your membership.

We will tell you why and give you a chance to explain before we suspend or end a membership, unless the matter is serious enough to act straight away. We may suspend your access while we look into a serious incident.

Some things can end your membership straight away. Violence, threats, abuse, harassment or discrimination towards anyone, in person or online. Theft, or damaging property on purpose. Bringing in or dealing illegal drugs. Filming or photographing in a changing room. Anything that deliberately or recklessly puts other people in danger. An honest review or complaint about UFit is never a reason to suspend or end a membership.

What happens to your payments if your membership is suspended or ended is set out in your membership terms.

Changes to these rules

We may change these rules. For a significant change, we will give you at least 90 days' notice in writing, by email, before it takes effect. A change needed for safety can take effect straight away. We will put it on display and tell you as soon as we can. The current version is always at ufit-fitness.com/club-rules and on display in the club.

These rules are displayed in full at the club, and the relevant sections are displayed in each area.
